We become involved in athletics in our youth mainly for social and physical development. Some of us find one sport or physical endeavour to best develop our skills, and stick to it....for me it was swimming.

From the time I was 5 years old, the City of Hamilton's Municipal Pool was my playground. That pool has been named after my coach and is now known as The Jimmy Thompson Memorial Pool. The time I spent in and around pools has been invaluable to me. I learned at a very young age about the plumbing, filtration and water treatment to make a pool safe and efficient. I later designed and built the pools for my George Park Swimming Schools, drawing on that early experience.
